A signature scent usually serves as a personal aroma that sprouts memory of you to treasured friends and loved ones. Are you thinking of a unique fragrance that can linger on your clothes, in rooms, over the air, causing thoughts of you, even in your absence. If then, remember the points to be noted before finding a signature scent.
1. Try out only three scents a time.
At first, while searching your scent, especially if you don’t really have an idea of what you like, you can smell everything. Try to only explore three scents per visit as otherwise our nostrils will be filled up with too many scents and we can’t differentiate the real smell.
2. Start with lighter scents first.
It’s better to start with more aqueous or musky scents first. Lighter smells can induce the olfactory receptor of your nostrils and further expands its capacity. Therefore at first, go from musky to citrus to fruity floral into heavier woods.
5. Try to understand what you smell.
If you smell a perfume, try to understand the vocabulary of scent. That is the moods, emotions and how they feel to you. While you understand, it helps to create a new association with your experience of the smell. This helps you to evaluate different smell that you undergo.
6. Smell the coffee beans.
If you smell more than 3 scents concurrently, sniff some Coffee beans as sniffing them “resets” your scent indicators.
7. See how a scent evolves after four hours.
In scent nomenclature, there is “top note”, “middle note” and “dry down” or “base note” of perfumes. Therefore we can say that fragrances are living organisms and evolve over time. A top note usually lasts about 20 minutes and it will be your first impression of the fragrance. The heart of the perfume or middle note lasts for the longer part of the day, maximum about four hours. The base note helps to long last the smell and it will be a mild scent.
Find your signature scent and leave a mark wherever you go.
